Play with me for a second…
Imagine you had to pay a tiny fee, every time you posted, commented, or reacted to posts on social media platforms like X, Instagram and Facebook…
Imagine you had to pay a tiny fee every time to watched a video on YouTube…
Imagine you had to pay a tiny fee every time you read an email, text message, or DM...
Imagine you had to pay a tiny fee for every single thing you ate and drank…
Imagine you had to pay a tiny fee for every conversation you have…
Actually - imagine you had to pay a tiny fee for every single thing you do.
Would you still make that comment, read that email, or watch that show?
Well…this isn't imagination.
You DO pay a fee for every thing you do.
The currencies we spend are called time and attention.
And they're way more valuable than dollars, euros, and pounds.

So valuable, that we treat them like currencies with our language with phrases like:
Let's 'spend' time together and 'pay' attention.
So what does this have to do with self-worth?
Well…we define 'net worth' as a cumulation of our assets, right?
What if we looked at 'self worth' as a cumulation of decisions that led to positive memories and useful investments of our time and attention?

I personally find that my confidence grows when I choose to use my time and attention that feel like an investment into creating a better future.
And this frame of thinking has added a new lens on decision making that I've found quite useful.
Especially for using time and attention on things most people think are 'free' (like making a comment on a post...
...watching an online video...
...or mindless scrolling).
What decision would give your future self a memory to be proud of?
